The power of the right people
It’s a thought provoking fact that we spend almost a quarter of our life at work. Although we dedicate such a significant lump of time to work, we have no guarantee that we will like the people we work with. Most people have experienced both ends of the spectrum: awesome colleagues who make all the usual work pressures seem bearable; and difficult colleagues that make every single day feel like an uphill struggle.
While we admit that it is unlikely you will be able to please everyone, it’s in a company’s best interest to go above and beyond to find the right people. Increasingly businesses are realising that a positive environment is not only beneficial to employees but it results in low staff turnover, increased productivity and as a result, grows the bottom line. It is this thinking that has made terms such as “cultural fit” HR buzz words, and for good reason. A company’s culture and values are the blue print that helps filter through the masses of CV’s to find the candidates that are the best fit for the company.
There is an old proverb that goes “show me your friends and I’ll tell you who you are,” meaning that we emulate behaviours of those we hang out with the most. At FMI we place a huge amount of emphasis on the power of the right people. We are a service led agency and we rely on our people to deliver for our clients, each and every day. Without fail.
For us, the right people are positive and engaged with their work and they have bought into progressing the company. They are friendly, helpful, approachable and reliable. They unequivocally power our business.
The term “right’ in this instance has many interpretations to suit many unique suitable individuals, but the constant output will be a positive and motivated workforce, high levels of productivity, low staff turnover, loyalty and a real sense of pride and ownership of the work they do. This is the power of the right people.
Positivity breeds positivity.
Not only is positivity infectious but it helps cultivate success. A positive mind-set enables people to tackle hard problems with a can do attitude, and, sometimes, this is half the battle.
Productive Pride
If people like their working environment they will, more than likely, buy into the success of the company. They will be willing to work longer hours and put in the extra effort, resulting in higher productivity. They take pride in their work and want their contribution to be of value to the team. They inevitably feel part of something bigger, and work hard to deliver against this.
Loyalty
While loyalty may seem like a rare commodity in today’s working environment, a positive working environment instils a sense of loyalty amongst the staff, and people stay committed to their jobs without wanting to move on to another organisation.
At FMI we have years of experience in recruiting the right people and we work successfully with our clients to help them find their right people. For the sake of your business, you should be doing everything in your power to surround yourself with the right people, get in touch today to discuss how we can help you.
