For those of you job hunting for 2015, these top tips from Conor Church at FMI recruitment should help provide you with some practical points to help you in your job search.
These are based on observations that Conor has experienced over the past year. Apply these tips and you should have much more success in your search for a new job.
- Always include a cover letter, unless the ad specifically states otherwise. This is your chance to talk about why you should get the job. Chances are, your cover letter will be read more thoroughly than your CV.
- Read the application in full, to ensure you answer any questions they may ask correctly. I have had far too many people read the following question ‘Why do you think you would be suitable for this role?’ and provide the answer ‘Yes’.
- When applying for a job, remember, they may call you. Be prepared, answer every phone call politely and be ready to sound enthusiastic.
- Research the company before your interview.
- Be on time (I suggest 10-15 minutes early). Any earlier and you are actually putting pressure on the interviewer) and dress appropriately. If in doubt, ring reception beforehand and ask them what the dress code is.
- Follow up with a quick email thanking them for their time.
This list is definitely not exhaustive, and we will endeavour to add to it over time to help you to find the right job with the right fit for you. Good luck in your job search for 2015.
